1st & 2nd Grade Quilting Project

Monday, March 7th
was Quilting Day in Ann Wallin's classroom.  This day was a culminating activity for a Quilting Theme in Reading.  The children read the story "Grandmother's Quilt" and learned about several simple quilt patterns. Parents and grandparents and quilting friends were invited to help each child make their own 9-patch quilt. Each child chose the fabric that they really loved and an adult cut the squares and sewed them together.  The children then had to "hand quilt" their own quilt. Finally, they used the embroidery stitch on Mrs. Wallin's sewing machine to stitch their name and date on their quilt. Everyone was so-o-o-o pleased with their quilt and could hardly wait to take it home.
