Summer Reading!

Dear Parents,
Research shows that students who do not read during the summer can experience learning loss. Do you want your
child to become a better reader and student? What can you do to help them and also bond with your child? The
answer is to take time and read with them. I have attached a chart that shows how important that reading to and with your child is. I have also attached a summer reading log.
Your child may return this form in the fall for recognition of a job well done. They will also get to choose a free book. This spring I held a Buy One, Get One Free Book Fair and also had a Book Trade PreK-5. This was to help students get different books for summer reading.

Where to find books your kids will gobble up:

Kid’s Reading List are excellent resources. The American Association (ALA) has recommendations for terrific books, easily found by searching “ALA reading lists.” DropEverythingandRead.com has a “Favorite D.E.A.R.
Books” tab on its home page.

The Elementary Library will be open on Wednesdays from 8 -11:30 during June and July.
June 8, 15, 22, 29
July 6, 13, 20, 27
Storytime will be at 10:00.
This letter and attachments that I mentioned will be sent home to each PreK-5 student.
Have a wonderful and safe summer! Happy Reading!!!
