Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry

The Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry will distribute food from 212 Main Street, Gays Mills from 2 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, the day before Thanksgiving.  The roughly 60 pounds of food in each allotment will go to households self-identifying as needing food assistance. Recipients must provide the registration volunteer with the total number of people in the household, the number of children and seniors, the name of the post office that delivers their mail, and whether the household income is above or below 185% of the federal poverty line. People attending the Gays Mills mobile pantry for the first time will be asked how they learned of it.
The building will be opened to patrons at 1:30 p.m. for registration. People arriving before 2 p.m. may have to stand outside for more than 15 minutes. Please dress appropriately. If you know the weather will challenge you, plan to arrive between 2:20 and 2:40 by which time we hope to have everyone inside.
Patrons should bring sturdy bags or boxes to hold their food. Volunteers will assist with transferring the food from shopping carts to patrons’ vehicles.
As some regular volunteers will not be able to assist at this mobile pantry, new volunteers are encouraged to share some holiday spirit by helping others. Volunteers should arrive around 1 p.m. to help with moving food from the truck to the building and preparing to distribute the food.
In October, the mobile pantry in Gays Mills provided food for 309 individuals in 142 households. Recipients included 74 children and 127 seniors. Twenty patrons were first time attendees. Patrons came from nineteen communities in four counties.
