Academic Standards Notice

The 2015-17 budget act specifically requires that, effective 7/14/15, school boards must annually include an agenda item for the first school board meeting of the school year (i.e., the first meeting after July 1) that clearly identifies the academic standards adopted by the board that will be in effect for the school year.  In addition, the school must annually notify parents/guardians of students enrolled in the District of the academic standards to be used for the upcoming school year, prior to start of the school term.  A statement such as the following should be sufficient:

“The Seneca Area School District follows the standards as adopted by the state of Wisconsin as a framework for our academic expectations.  All state and federal laws are complied with.  The Common Core Standards have been followed where appropriate, and are used as an outline of base expectations.  These previously mentioned baseline academic standards are exceeded by our school in most areas.”
