SCHOOL DELAYS AND CANCELLATIONS

When the weather situation becomes challenging, three possible situations can exist: school can be cancelled completely, school can be two hours late, or school may be dismissed early. If school is cancelled completely or starts late, we will make every effort to have the announcement out by 6:30 a.m. If school is going to be late, and then we need to cancel it, we will make every effort to have that change announced by 8:30 a.m. When we let school out early, we will try to give parents 2 hours of advanced notice whenever possible.

We will put weather related announcements on the following media outlets:

Radio: WQPC, Prairie du Chien, 94.3 FM. WVRQ, Viroqua, 102.3 FM, WIZM, LaCrosse, 93.3 FM.

TV: WKBT, LaCrosse, Channel 8. WXOW, LaCrosse, Channel 19.

Note: The TV stations have informed us that if less than 3 schools have announcements on a particular day, they will not run the “scrolling” announcements along the bottom of the television screen, thereby making radio your best bet for accurate information.

Text Messages: If you are a parent and your number is current in skyward, you will automatically receive our text updates.  If you are not a parent, please download the Seneca Area School District App for your smart phone. Important messages will go out through the app as a push notification.

Please have a plan in advance for possible early school closures or delays. Parents or guardians may want to advise their child’s teacher of any alternate plans in case of early dismissal due to weather challenges. Please do not call the radio stations or the school in anticipation of announcements, this only delays the procedure and makes it more difficult. If you do find it necessary to call the school, dial extension 2 for school related announcements, as school cancellations will also be posted there.
